During a creative residency at Makun Studios, a Mi'kmaq run art collective in East Van August 2025, Lucy created a narrative surrealist oil painting depicting friendship, resilience and magic of sunset crows in East Van, which fly over the house every night.

Depicting the garden and backyard of Nakuset Gould, where the magic in the garden made the sunflowers triple in height after a large rainstorm which took out part of the sunflower field, this painting is about overcoming the rainstorms of life and growing tall despite all obstacles and institutional oppression. In reference to classical artists who have been inspired by sunflowers such as Vincent Van Gogh, who created a large body of work despite living with mental illnesses, this painting is a story about overcoming personal challenges in order to find strength through friendship and belonging.
